Used condition, see pictures for details.  One head is mounted properly on the base.  The other head will lift up on the front due to hot glue being separated.  Both bases have metal pins sticking up that the heads mount to. It looks like the glue keeps the head from lifting off the pins.  The head that separates requires force to do so. Just picking the bookend up would not cause it to separate.
