Now, the long-awaited acoustic guitar is released from the Murphy Lab Collection.
The L-00, J-45, Southern Jumbo, SJ-200, and Hummingbird, acoustic guitars that are essential to the history and tradition of Gibson guitars, will join the "Ultimate Vintage Reissues".
●Custom Shop Murphy Lab Acoustic Collection 1957 SJ-200 Light Aged
The 1957 SJ-200, released by the Custom Shop, features hand-selected maple for the back and sides, a stinger headstock, and a thermally aged top for a vintage feel.
The 1957 SJ-200 Light Aged has a light aged finish by Murphy Lab's skilled luthiers. Murphy Lab's light aged finish, along with aged hardware, recreates the feel of a vintage guitar that has been played by guitarists for decades. The finish gives you the unique personality, atmosphere, and feeling of the original model from Gibson's golden age.
●Light Acoustic Aging
Simulates the conditions of a guitar that has been played with care for 50 years, recreating a favorite guitar that has rarely left the user's home environment. The guitar features pick marks around the sound hole, light dents, rounded edges, and a unique lacquer check pattern throughout. It is paired with VOS hardware and hand-rolled fingerboard binding.
●Murphy Lab Acoustic Collection
Murphy Lab Acoustic is a newly established department within the Gibson Montana factory that produces custom products. The products produced by Murphy Lab Acoustic have been developed based on the results and knowledge of Tom Murphy's decades of vintage guitar research.
The paint is applied by Murphy Lab's dedicated staff, and when painting the color, a different painting process is used than for regular models to reproduce the oxidized state (aged state) of vintage guitars. The process involves reproducing the oxidized wood material and applying a realistic burst to it.
As for the lacquer, Murphy lacquer is used, which is different from the lacquer used in regular Montana products. The Murphy lacquer used in Montana is a different formula from the Murphy lacquer used in the Nashville Custom Shop. Murphy Lab Acoustic products use a harder lacquer than that used in regular products so that weather checking (lacquer checking) occurs naturally.
*Due to the nature of lacquer, which is prone to cracks and chips, natural weather checking may occur depending on the usage environment even after purchase. Since this is due to the concept of this product to reproduce a vintage guitar, there is no problem with the product and it is not covered by the official warranty. Please note.
In addition, the sound hole label has also been aged. Some individual guitars have the unique pick scratches of vintage acoustic guitars. The concept of light aged guitars is to reproduce guitars that have been played moderately but handled carefully.
The greatest appeal of Murphy Lab Acoustic products is undoubtedly the sound. Murphy lacquer is hard and brittle, and the coating is thin, so the guitar itself is very sensitive to string vibrations. This means that there are fewer factors that dampen the sound compared to a normal lacquer-coated guitar, which has a softer nature, and a very wide dynamic range can be obtained.
