Luangpor Thong Abhakaro, commonly known as Luangpor Thong, is a respected Thai Buddhist monk and a prominent teacher of Mahasati Meditation, a method developed by his mentor, Luangpor Teean Jittasubho. Born on May 14, 1939, in Mueang Nongbua Lamphu District, Nong Bua Lamphu Province, Thailand, he was ordained as a monk in 1961 at the age of 22. After six years of studying traditional Dhamma courses, he met Luangpor Teean in 1967 and delved deeply into Mahasati Meditation under his guidance. By 1985, Luangpor Thong was appointed as the abbot of Wat Sanamnai, a significant Mahasati meditation center in Thailand. Following Luangpor Teean's passing in 1989, Luangpor Thong became the president of the Luangpor Teean Jittasubho Foundation.
He also established the Mahasati Association of America in 1995 to promote this meditation practice in the United States.
Mahasati Meditation is a form of Vipassana (insight meditation) that emphasizes body movements to cultivate self-awareness and realization. This practice is accessible to individuals of all backgrounds, regardless of religion or nationality
