This book is widely considered to be the foundational text of French literature, and one of the great works of Western literature. Written in the late 17th century by the Archbishop of Cambrai, this book is an epic poem describing the adventures of Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, and explores complex and enduring themes surrounding human nature, politics, and morality. Central to the telling of the story are the complex characters of Telemachus and his tutor Mentor, who represents the wisdom of Athena and serves as a guide for Telemachus as he matures from a naive and rash youth to a courageous and sagacious man. The book has had a tremendous impact on Western thought, and is still widely read and studied today for the depth of its insights into the human condition and the art of governance.
