Invicta 35280 Tourbillon

Of course the standout feature of this timepiece is the Tourbillon. I remember it was not that long ago to obtain a Tourbillon as a watch collector meant you had acquired the holy grail of watch movements. Tourbillon movements have now been put on the wrists of us mere mortals by way of Chinese manufacturers.

The mechanical marvel found in these timepieces is Caliber 3481-E. For those of you wanting to research this movement it is the “Exhibition” version of the Caliber 3481. This is a hand wound, high beat (28,800 beats per hour), flying Tourbillon with a power reserve of 72hrs.

I have this movement along with the Seagull version in several timepieces in my collection and have found them to be both accurate and robust time keepers. The Skeletonised “E” designation of these movements is stunning both from the front and the rear view. I will endeavour to take detailed photographs of the movement to negate an overly long verbal description.

I have noticed whilst handling these timepieces that one does not really see the case. The Tourbillon movement is so striking that it draws your eyes away from the casework. Having said that the case is 44mm wide and 55mm north to south. It has been constructed as a case and cradle arrangement with the base plate being gently curved forming a comfortable wrist placement. The base plate screws on the tonneau shaped main case which houses the movement. Five red crystal window accents have been inserted on all case sides surrounding the timepiece.

An onion style crown is situated in the 3 o’clock position obviously for time setting and winding duties. A red chapter ring surrounding the skeletonised dial supports round 5 minute indexes. Large silver hour and minute hands have been tipped in red. The heart of the movement, the Flying Tourbillon nestles just above the 6 o’clock position and makes one full rotation every 60 secs. All case surfaces have been finished in high polish stainless steel.

The red silicon strap on this model, although good quality, I believe does not belong on a timepiece of this Caliber. A quality polished stainless bracelet would make a gorgeous looking time piece even more so, particularly given that these models were priced in the thousands of dollars when first released. At least the silicone strap is not case dependent so it will be an easy task to replace it should you feel so inclined.

Watch is new with tag and plastics attached. Comes with paperwork in an Invicta Presentation case and will be sent for free via Express Post within the land of Oz.

I have been fielding enquiries recently in relation to the authenticity of the watches I sell and also customers wanting all plastics removed from the watches when being photographed.

Firstly all my watches are certainly authentic. I do not sell, replica watches all though I do know that replica Invicta's do exist as I have myself unknowingly purchase a couple. My advice is not to buy Invicta watches where the country of origin is China. Having said that both replica's I purchased were from the United States, obviously marketed through Chinese affiliates in that country. Try to buy from reputable sellers.

If I describe a watch as new, then it is new and generally is wrapped in the manufacture's plastics. I do remove and replace some but not all of these plastics for photographic clarity. Most of my customers prefer an unmolested product where plastics are concerned however if you are genuine in your enquiry and prefer that all plastics be removed for photographic purposes then contact me and I will oblige.
