Sergiu Celibidache (1912 – 1996) was a Romanian conductor, composer, music theorist and teacher. Educated in his native Romania, and later in Paris and Berlin, Celibidache's career in music spanned over five decades, including stints as principal conductor of the Munich Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra and many other European orchestras. Later in life, he taught at the University of Mainz in Germany and at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
