He peeks around a corner with an expression of anticipation, as if awaiting someone’s arrival — a moment captured with theatrical charm and emotional depth.
Executed in a Romantic-Baroque revival style, the painting likely dates to the second half of the 19th century (circa 1850–1890). The artist, J. Lambert, has signed the piece in the lower left corner. The composition, attention to costume detail, and expressive pose reflect the salon traditions of 19th-century European painting, possibly of French or Belgian origin.
The work is presented in a beautifully ornate gilded period frame, which complements the dramatic character of the subject and enhances its decorative presence.
