Antique 19th Century Hanau Guild German 835 Silver Pocket Snuff Box 56.9g
This is a wonderful continental silver pocket snuff box that we date to around the mid-19th century. The marks resemble those used in Hanau Guild of Germany for the period, though not specifically traced. It has a “P” with a angular shield surmounted by a crown, a wavy line bar and maker’s initials (barely readable) but could be “RGM” or “AGM”.
The box is rectangular with round ends. The hinged lid is chased rose flowers to each corner with a cartouche to the centre. This is monogrammed “A.M.J.A.”. The walls and underside have bands of parallel lines in groups of four separated by a single wider stripe.
The box is in good antique condition, no faults or damage to report, some light handling wear, and a warm patina. The pictures are part of the description and condition report.
Measure: H1.8 x L7.15 x W3.85cm; 56.9 g.
