This is a custom-made silicone rubber replacement disc mat for CD players using the famous Pioneer Stable Platter mechanism, which holds the disc upside down. Many of the original mats have hardened and started to crack—mine included—and the players tend not to function optimally without a mat of the right thickness and texture. So we decided to fabricate a replacement, the design of which we refined through trial and error:
—cut from a translucent sheet of 1/32" thick U.S.-made silicone rubber
—bottom side has a glossy finish, to stick to the aluminum platter
—top side has a custom matte finish with subtle diamond pattern, to hold CDs during playback but avoid sticking to them
It's elegant, made from high quality material, and in the player in which I've used it, significantly improved performance compared to the old hardened mat (or no mat at all). It's also custom made in the U.S. and will be shipped quickly.
