Description: This herb has some common names, among which the most common are the Chinese sage, the Miltiorrhiza Radix Salviae, the red sage, the danshen and the Tan Shen. Medicinal means mainly dried root and rhizome of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge, in the family of Labiatae. The oldest written reference to Dan Shen was discovered in Shen Nun Ben Cao (The Classic of Materia Medica Divine Husband), dated around 200 CE.
Dan Shen grows in many parts of Asia and is very prominent in Mongolia. Once harvested, the roots are turned into a powder or a tea. It can also be taken as capsules, filled with the ground root. The root of Dan Shen is an incredible super-food or herb
