Michail (Mykhailo) Tkachenko was born on December 5, 1925 in the
Voroshilovgrad region, in a mining family. The land of his childhood -
wide steppes, cozy villages immersed in green gardens, flowers of
mallows and sunflowers, majestic rhythms of harsh heaps - he later
reflected in many of his works.The artist's second home was
Prykarpattia, Lviv, where he graduated from the Lviv State Institute of
Decorative and Applied Arts in the Department of Monumental Painting
(graduated in 1953).
From 1958 to 1962 Tkachenko taught painting, drawing and composition
at the I. Trush Lviv School. From 1962 he worked as a lecturer at the
Lviv State Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts (since 1947 -
Associate Professor of Painting). He participated in many exhibitions -
regional, interregional, national, All-Union and foreign. In 1976, a
personal exhibition was held at the Lviv State Museum of Ukrainian Art.
The artist worked fruitfully in the genre of historical portrait,
creating a number of interesting images of prominent Ukrainian
personalities.
