Once engine starting is initiated by driver, the Glow Plug's Heater Tube is energized and goes rapidly to over 1400 degrees F.  This high temperature ignites the diesel fuel which causes combustion which then start the engine.  "Post Glow" (typically 3 minutes) takes place after engine starting. "Post Glow" is essential to minimize warm up time and reduce toxic emissions.  Diesel Engine Glow Plugs have a Lifespan of about 100,000 miles.
