SKALDOS

Silence screams

Leningrad 1972

An Official Live Bootleg

Wydawnictwo 21, 2007

In the 1970s, the Skaldowie, at the peak of their career, conducted very lively concert activities.

Unfortunately, with the exception of the only recording on an Amiga disc (a record label from the former GDR), there is no phonographic documentation of the band's concerts from this period.

The album "Cisza krzycza" with material recorded during the group's tour of the USSR in 1972 is the first attempt to fill this gap. The concert was recorded on an amateur reel-to-reel tape recorder using one simple microphone, and for obvious reasons the sound quality differs from that known from official concert records, although for a bootleg the quality is very satisfactory and superior to many Western releases of this type.

The archival and cognitive value of the album cannot be overestimated.

Perhaps this is the only opportunity to see how the Skalds interpreted their great hits from the 1960s live and, above all, to listen to concert versions of ambitious songs known from the albums "Krywań, Krywań" and "Wszystkim Kochan".

The Skaldowie gave a lot of concerts. Unfortunately, none of our phonographic masters, or other (let's leave aside the insults against those responsible) guys, had the idea that a band like Skaldowie could record a live album. What a pity. Because of the concert potential of this group, its popularity (squealing fans and young men waving their jackets) begged for a concert release. However, the system of universal happiness decided otherwise and it is difficult now to complain that fate has punished us so much. Anyway, after many years we received a nicely released live album. Recorded during the group's concerts in Leningrad (today Saint-Petersburg) during the 1972 tour.

On Cisza Krzyczy, virtually every recording deserves recognition. Of course, there are people who will probably first look at all-powerful songs like The Beautiful Cellist or The Village Postman's Meditation. Because of course there are hits on this album, although sometimes in quite specific versions. I recommend listening to it, because it sounds really amazing (at times strange). However, people familiar with rock music should check out this album precisely because of the daring and thrilling performances of important songs that Skaldowie recorded earlier in their career.
