I ponticelli di selezione delle ROM sull'Atari ST (come i ponticelli per 2 ROM o 6 ROM) servono a configurare la scheda madre per riconoscere correttamente il tipo e il numero di chip ROM installati. Questo è particolarmente importante quando si aggiorna il TOS, poiché versioni diverse del TOS possono essere distribuite con un numero variabile di chip ROM. 
Gli Atari ST originali usavano in genere due chip ROM (ad esempio, per il TOS 1.02). Tuttavia, versioni successive del TOS, come il TOS 1.04, spesso richiedevano sei chip ROM, soprattutto nei modelli dotati di più memoria o con diverse revisioni hardware.

    The original Atari STs typically used two ROM chips (for example, for TOS 1.02). However, later versions of the TOS, such as TOS 1.04, often required six ROM chips, especially on models with more memory or different hardware revisions.
    The jumpers therefore ensure that the memory mapping and access to the ROM chips is correct. For example, if you install two 256K ROMs but the motherboard is set for six ROMs, the system will not be able to read the TOS correctly.
