Listed German Artist Oskar Langer* Signed & Dated, on lower right, this Marvelous Town in Winter Landscape scene. It is an Original Watercolor on paper, 1941/42 (as per the artist). We are presented with the Bavarian town of Zwiesel during the winter of 1941/2. Cozy, timber-framed houses and farm buildings lie in a small valley between a snow-covered hill, at left, and a forested mountain, at right. The color palette is still quite vivid. The piece is painted with great care and detail, not surprising as he moved there in 1936 and continued to live and paint there until his death.
3/4" Wide, Rounded (bullnose) wood moulding in a glossy, dark orange/red color and glazing are included complimentary in this listing.
Image opening measures 16 X 19 3/4 and is in Very Good condition.
Outside measure of the frame is 17 1/4 X 21 1/4 and is in Good condition w/ a few scratches.

*Oskar Langer (1909-1971) Langer attended the Zwiesel Glass School and learned stained glass and graphics there, as a master student of Bruno Mauder. He had his first major success in 1926 with some pen drawings at the annual show of the Regensburg Art and Trade Association. In 1929 he became a draftsman at the Farbenglaswerke. In 1936 he married and built a house in Zwiesel.
His reputation as a landscape painter continued to grow. A painting of his was accepted three times for the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich. As a painter, he changed his style to a moderate modernism. The Bavarian Forest remained his most important motif, and he also painted portraits and still lifes. In addition to oil paintings, he also created watercolors and drawings. In 1956 he was elected chairman of the Zwiesel section of the Bavarian Forest Association, and in 1968 he became executive chairman of the entire association.
