Strategic loneliness does not mean a lack of faith in the allied system in which Poland participates. Countries with our potential must independently shape the space that surrounds us, including, above all, in the field of security. We must stabilize the situation in accordance with the Polish strategic plan of the great game.
Does that mean abandoning allies? On the contrary. Strategic loneliness should rather be understood as the need to conduct one's own, Polish strategic calculation. This reckoning must be done alone, assuming that not all of our interests coincide with those of our allies.
No one in their right mind can propose to loosen ties with NATO, the United States or the European Union, but it is equally imprudent to expect others to solve our strategic dilemmas for us. Our alliance is evolving, the assessment of the situation and the importance of individual countries are changing. Even if we're all marching in the same direction, it's not at the same pace.
Even assuming that Paris or Berlin decide to fulfill their allied commitments without hesitation and undue delay, the question of their ability arises. From a military point of view, we will be on our own, our regional allies and the United States.
We will have to fight the war alone for a long time.
