Die erste Ausgabe der neunteiligen Serie "Wunderwelt Insekten" ist dem Insektenreich gewidmet. Ausgegeben, um auf das dramatische Insektensterben aufmerksam zu machen, zeigt die teilbefärbte Kupfer-Nickel-Münze aus Deutschland unterschiedliche Insekten sowie ihre vielfältigen Lebensräume bestehend aus verschiedenen Pflanzenarten, Gewässern und der Luft. Entlang des unteren Münzrandes wurde die Inschrift "INSEKTENREICH" eingraviert, zusätzlich enthält der Münzrand die Inschrift "WUNDERWELT INSEKTEN". Die Rückseite zeigt den Bundesadler, den Schriftzug „BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND“, die zwölf Europasterne, den Nennwert "5 EURO", das Ausgabejahr 2022 und den Prägebuchstaben "F" für die Prägestätte in Stuttgart.

Insekten - darunter Bienen, Schmetterlinge und Käfer - werden insbesondere durch die aktuell vorherrschende Form der Agrarwirtschaft stark bedroht. Die dort eingesetzten aggressiven Pestizide, aber auch die Überdüngung und insektenfeindliche Privatgärten rauben ihnen Nahrung und Lebensraum. Dabei spielen Insekten durch die Bestäubung von Wild- und Nutzpflanzen eine enorm wichtige Rolle für unser Ökosystem und dienen darüber hinaus auch als Nahrung für verschiedene Vogelarten. Untersuchungen haben ergeben, dass bisher ein Rückgang von bis zu 80% der Biomasse der Insekten zu verzeichnen ist. The first issue of the nine-part series "Wonderful World of Insects" is dedicated to the Insect Kingdom.
