This is the Original (1sh) 1956 movie poster THE WEREWOLF.  It was used by Columbia to promote this movie when it was released in 1956.  It is not a reprint nor a reproduction.  The movie stars Steven Ritch, Don Megowan, Joyce Holden, Eleanore Tanin, Kim Charney, and Harry Lauter.  It was directed by Fred F. Sears.

This original movie poster was restored and linen backed and measures 26.5" x 41".   It is rolled and will be shipped rolled.  With the linen, it measures 29" x " x 42.75".  Prior to restoration and linen backing, the poster was Folded.   Most original movie posters pre 1985 are Folded.  This is not considered a flaw or defect.

Although we have bought some original movie posters already restored and/or linen backed, for THE WEREWOLF we had this restored, and linen backed very recently (Around May to Sept 2022) by Jaime Menez Restoration and Conservation. It has that "new" linen backed smell a tad, just like a new car smell.   Having it recently restored is why (below) you will see what you will think are a lot of flaws prior to restoration.  When we send originals to be restored, we inspect the poster very closely under bright light and list every flaw, major or very minor, that we find.  Our goal is to give you, the customer, an original movie poster in the best condition/grade that we can get it to.

And we also want to give you, the potential customer, the most complete and accurate description of prior flaws that have been corrected through restoration.

Oh yes, another goal is to make a little money too in the process:)!!  That is why some may find the price of THE WEREWOLF original One Shet movie poster a bit high, a good part of that price driven or caused by the cost of restoration and linen backing.  We believe one should - in addition to price - also take into account the grade or condition of an original when comparing the same original from various dealers.

This original movie poster is graded C8.5, Very Fine/Near Mint.  Original movie posters are graded as follows from the top down: C10 (Mint), C9 (Near Mint), C8 (Very Fine), C7 (Fine/Very Fine), C6 (Fine or Very Good), C5 (Good to Very Good), C4 (Good), etc.  The pre-restoration grade was C7 Fine/Very Fine.   Restoration corrected:

a.   Pin holes (a lot 2 at a time) along all borders intermittently; b.  3 pin holes or so in the image area on the left side to the right of the WEREWOLF’s eye in the vanilla-colored area; c.  Separation at the vertical Fold line to the left of “THE”; d. Separation and wear all along the bottom Horizontal Fold line; e. 1” whitish tear at the left bottom in the small picture of the WEREWOLF; f.  Tear in the WEREWOLF’S bluish head of hair; g. Pin holes in the image area on the bottom above and to the left of “country” and “Copyright”; h. Black spec(s) in the image area on the right side below and to the left of the hand holding the gun; i. Separation at all 3 cross Folds; j. 2 to 4 blackish specs on the right border near the top to the right of the woman’s legs;  k. needed touchup at all horizontal and vertical Fold lines; l.  Possibly all background sections of vanilla-colored areas need some airbrushing to remove blackish overall tint; and m. Brownish light staining at all 4 corners.

After restoration, this original movie poster now displays beautifully. It has a very clean appearance with solid and rich colors and iconic B-movie images.  And the details of the images are excellent.

We believe that the original 1956 movie poster THE WEREWOLF has great value and investment value.   It is part of the many 1950's and 1960's sci-fi and horror movies of those two great decades, and the original movie posters of these (I call) "classic" movies are always in high demand from collectors and fans alike.  The investment value is also increased by the high grade of C8.5 (Very Fine/Near Mint) of this poster, while the linen backing will ensure its longevity.
