Photograph Notes: The 'black bog' occupies a hollow beneath the cliffs of this spectacular natural amphitheatre. Much of the site is protected as a national nature reserve: it truly is one of the wonders of the Brecon Beacons National Park with something to offer the botanist (rare endemic whitebeams and more), the geologist (superb sections through the entire north crop of the Carboniferous Limestone) and the industrial archaeologist (the quarries at the far side having once kept the ironworks of the coalfield valleys supplied via a long tramroad which now provides easy access to the site from the east).
