The innocent are exposed to the seamy side of life, as the classic story of a woman behind bars unfolds!" VIEWER COMMENT: "This a very smart and well made movie about..well..women in prison! All the stereotypes are present the evil matron the sweet but strong heroin the bully who runs the joint inside the repeat offender who used to run the joint with a nicer style and is back in after finding it to hard to make it outside. The nice guard with a heart of gold etc... What is not here is the gratuitous nudity and kung-fu ultra- violence while there is very slight nudity and several fight scenes both are realistic and necessary to advance the story. The story deals with alot of human issues surrounding people struggeling to survive in a free market capitalistic society that seems new to them they are trying to make the right decisions to survive and prosper, and finding out this is often hard to do. At times this movie can be a bit sappy and a little corny, but only very briefly and these seem to be used as a device to promote the real message of this film that in the world and in prison, freedom isnt free. And everyone bears the responsibilty of making there own way and changing the system a little bit and a time.It all works for this film very well. Im glad Tokyo Shock didnt dub this gem but rather left the Chinese dialog and clear subtitles that do move a bit quickly at times to read it all but thats ok. Interestng are the english phrases used when adressing ones superiors...yes madam...yes sir... etc.. and the song that is House Of The Rising Sun with very different lyrics in Chinese but subtitled and are very profound indeed and well done. I got this on VHS 'cause it was cheap and looked fun. What I got was a very well made, serious and facinating film well acted and very well directed and photographed with an even hand and masterfull touch of artfull film making."
