What Size Filter Do I
Need?
To achieve a secure
attachment, these filters are designed to screw onto lenses with a standard
filter threading. Prior to purchase, confirm a precise fit by checking your
camera's lens thread size. The size is denoted by the symbol "Φ"
followed by a number (e.g., Φ82 for an 82mm lens thread). Locate this
information on the front glass element, lens cap, manual, or information from
the manufacturer.

The Tiffen Soft/FX Filter can be applied to purposely reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles in portraits or to apply a general soft-focus effect while maintaining overall sharpness. An array of small lenses distributed within the surface of this filter smooths fine lines and textures, which can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject.
Grades of 1/2, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase. When higher grade numbers are applied, a halation effect around highlights can be created to further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

The Tiffen 49mm Warm Soft/FX 1 Filter can be applied to create a warm cast over an entire image while purposely reducing the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles in portraits, or to apply a general soft-focus effect while maintaining overall sharpness. An array of small lenses distributed within the surface of this filter smooths fine lines and textures, which can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject.
The warming effect of this filter can be obtained under daylight when this filter is used on a film camera system with daylight film installed, or on a digital camera system with its daylight white balance setting selected. This filter's overall coloration reflects a mired shift value of +45.

Tiffen Optical Filters
Tiffen filters are manufactured using ColorCore™ technology, a
closely guarded proprietary process that entails permanently laminating
the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are
ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting
them in precision metal rings. The ColorCore process allows us to
control the color and density of Tiffen filters, and the characteristics
of special effects filters with much greater accuracy than typical
dyed-in-the-mass filters, which usually exhibit color and density
variations.
TIP HOW TO PROLONGING THE LIFE OF YOUR FILTERS
Filters, like all crafted optics, are susceptible not only to breakage, but to premature aging caused by environmental factors. Most filters are made up of several layers of materials consisting of glass, dyes, optical cements, chemical compounds, particles etc. Even with protective measures employed, there are many factors that can still affect the longevity of the filter: moisture (prolonged exposure to humidity), excessive heat and excessive light are the most common environmental causes that can affect the filter’s chemistry over time.
To
protect your filters and keep them in great working condition for a
long time (along with the rest of your camera gear) we recommend making
sure to keep the filters stored in a dark, cool, and dry place when not
in use. The use of filter pouches or specialized cases will also keep
your filters safe from breakage when not in use. If you are in a humid
environment, the addition of fresh silica gel packs or a dehumidifier in
the room they are stored is also highly recommended. Protecting your
filters as you would your camera lenses will ensure many years of use of
your filters.
What do you recommend cleaning filters with?
Hand
blower first, if it's just light dust, that usually handles it. If you
need to clean further, a Kim Wipe sprayed with Tiffen/Pancro Lens
Cleaner, work in a circular motion from the middle out.
