Executed in ca. 1825 (probably by Jean-François Hollier) it is a high quality miniature portrait of Marie-Caroline, Duchess de Berry (1798-1870), new Princess of Two Sicilies, widow of the son of Count d'Artois (King Charles X), Charles Ferdinand, Duke de Berry (assassinated in 1829).
Our images nr. 6-7 show her famous portrait (also from 1825) by Thomas Lawrence and provide her detailed biography.

We add that the Duchess apparently posed for this miniature in person - just this representation of her is unique.

Jean-François Hollier (1776 Chantilly - 1845 Paris) was a pupil of two great artists: David and Isabey. He exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1804 to 1831. In 1817 and 1824 he received 2nd class medals. In 1816-1817 he worked for the porcelain factory of Sevres.
The technique of Hollier is strongly influenced by Isabey.
