Description: A unique museum quality item. This book is signed by the author, both as Ole Luk-Oie and E D Swinton to the front free end paper. The book contains a hand written letter to Edward Guinness, Lord Iveagh dated 01.08.16. at the height of the first world war. The letter, with reference to this book, says, "the stories were written some time ago in the hope of exciting some interest in what war really means in the heart of an ignorant and heedless nations - it knows now". The book includes two supernatural tales.

Edward Dunlop Swinton (1868-1951) was a British soldier widely credited for the development of tank warfare with his colleague, the soldier and occultist J F C Fuller. Intriguingly, the title page has an erased inscription which appears partially to read "__ Fuller, The __ Regt".

Original cloth hardback. 318 pages plus 32 page catalogue. 7.5 by 5 inches. In very pleasing condition with a little wear and bumping (see pictures). Internally clean. Binding sound and square.  A unique item.

Provenance: This book was part of the collection of the celebrated book seller and collector George Locke.
