We are dealing here with a superior quality miniature portrait of a young Bavarian prince (note the red sash of Bavarian Order of St. Hubert over the sitter's left shoulder). The shape of his wig suggests mid-1730s.
Our comparison images convincingly demonstrate that this piece is a typical work of famous Italian pastelist and miniaturist, Rosalba Carriera.

Rosalba Carriera (1675 Venice - 1757 ibidem) was a pupil of Lazzari and Balestra. During her lifetime she was internationally famous for her portraits in pastel and her miniatures. In 1705 she became member of the Academy of St.Luc in Rome. She traveled a lot and portrayed many important people. Around the year 1745 she lost her sight. Works by Rosalba Carriera belong to the most important museum collections of the world.
