Excellent book on Lajos Kassak and the birth of Modernism and the avant-garde in Hungary in the 20's. Kassak was the central figure in Budapest of the period, a multitalented writer, graphic artist and designer. For several years he edited the seminal Hungarian literary and fine arts journal Ma, a key forum for the avant-garde, and went on to produce a large body of work that extended into the 60's, influencing multiple generations of Hungarian artists. This book profiles his work in graphic design, poster art, book design, and typography, with 80 color plates, several black and white plates, and a catalogue of 215 items in the exhibition in the rear.
