Just when you get familiar with one of Nike and Sacai’s experimental sneaker creations, the formula changes. In the case of the latest VaporWaffle, it’s the upper that’s different, with deep violet leather replacing the previous pairs’ mesh.Everything else is as normal — that is, if you could ever call a release by these two normal. Accenting orange picks out one of two Swooshes, and there’s double the tongues and laces, too. Underfoot, the model’s signature sole unit is stacked, split, and jutting out at the heel, as always.
The newest colourway from Nike's ongoing collaboration with Japanese label Sacai, these 'VaporWaffle' sneakers combine the profile of classic athletic shoes with a futuristic twist. Set on waffled outsoles with signature lipped heels, they have leather uppers with suede overlays and a co-branded, double-stacked tongue.
It’s likely that this year will bring a close to sacai‘s Nike VaporWaffle. But before then, we’ll have both the upcoming “Sesame” and “Dark Iris” colorways to enjoy. Two drastically different sides to the same coin, the duo deals out both ends of the tonal spectrum. The “Dark Iris” here is brooding, shaded with its titular purple all throughout — eye stays, tongues, and suede overlays included. Underneath, the mesh is accented with a dark navy near the lace unit, complementing the ribbon laces above and the extra printed Swoosh immediately below. Elsewhere, aside from the bits of white along the tooling and lining, the pair injects even more color with Campfire Orange heel tabs and checks.
