What is WELS?

With drought and dwindling water supplies, it is becoming more important for Australians to find ways to reduce water consumption. As a result the Federal Government introduced the WELS scheme in 2005, which become mandatory in 2006. WELS (Water Efficiency Labeling & Standard Scheme) is now required for most plumbing products ie. taps, toilet dishwasher, washing machines etc... It is now illegal to advertise, sell, distribute and install non WELS approved products in Australia. It is also manditory to display WELS rating on all advertising and it must be shown upon demand to anyone who wishes to see it. There are severe fines and penalties for breeches of WELS Scheme to Sellers, Plumber and Builders....beware of non WELS approved products
