From a one-woman studio in Peggy Karr's Morristown, New Jersey home in 1987, Peggy Karr Glass opened their doors to their facilities in Randolph, New Jersey to become the largest fused glass manufacturer in the world. Her artisans employed similar techniques to those used by the ancient Mesopotamians over 3,500 years ago. The colors are hand-stenciled on to a layer of hand-cut glass and a second layer of glass is then placed on top. Finally, the entire piece is placed on a mold and kiln-fired at 1600 degrees F, fusing the glass and color into one. The subtle color variations, surface texture, and bubbles that result give each piece a distinctive, handmade appearance. Sadly, Peggy Karr glass closed its doors for good in 2016. Therefore, all first quality pieces immediately became more valuable as they would not be produced any longer in the marketplace.
