Traditional uk housing stock derrived its water pressure from a cold water tank in the loft. This is slowly changing with the introduction of combi boilers and pressurised systems and pumps. The static water pressure is derrived by gravity acting on the head of water measured from the level of thr water at the top of your tank to the outlet of that water at say a shower head. Lets say you have 10 feet, this equates to 0.3 bar. This is your static pressure and it cannot change without raising your cold water tank or introducing a pump. When water flows in the sytem however the available pressure at the outlet point reduces as energy is absorbed during the flow process as water flows through your pipework bends and valves. The rate of flow is affected by the diameter of the pipe. eg if your pipework is half inch you may achieve a flow of some 23 lpm with no valves or bends. With 3/4 pipe perhaps 63 lpm. So by increasing the diameter of your shower hose you thus will help the water flow rate and the available pressure at the shower head. Remember your static head of water hasnt changed. Also when you see shower head sellers who say the head increases the pressure by 1.5 times you know this cannot be correct. Remember you never get something for nothing.
