For your consideration is an outstanding TOP GEM shellskin opal from Coober Pedy- the finest I have ever seen! For those not familiar, a shellskin opal is an Opalized Fossil Bivalve, (like a clam or an oyster.) Shell opals are rare and highly prized by collectors, especially when they demonstrate brilliant gem color, like this one. (Brightness 4.9/5 and 100% Non-Directional.) Base tone is N7 semi-crystal. This beauty weighs 3 carats exactly and measures 14mm long by 13mm wide by 4mm deep. Please note that this gem is not cabochon-cut! In order to retain the natural shape of the shell, all I've done is polish the top and scrape the sand out of the back. It is otherwise untreated and ALL-Natural.
