  • The image area measures a generous 42 x 58 cm [16½" x 22¾"], and details include wagon roads, railways, villages, town boundaries, post offices, natural features, and individual homes and farms!


  • The map is drawn on a scale of 1:158,400, or 2½ miles to an inch, and the topography is shown in relief, giving the map a very handsome, dramatic appearance.


  • The coverage area is centered on Middlesex County and also includes lands to the west and east, from Holden and Wachusett Mountain to Ipswich, Hull, and Marblehead Harbor.


  • Among the other named places and features on the map are the Boston, Clinton & Fitchburg Railroad, Walden Pond, Shrewsbury, Harvard College, Methuen, Spoon Hill, Littleton Village, the Danvers & Newburyport Railroad, Bedford, Winchester, Original Baldwin Apple Tree, Cambridge, Bolton, Stering Junction, Waltham, Lexington, Brookline, Wayland, Acton, Newton, Framingham, and Chelmsford.
