It’s Civil War in the Marvel Universe… Whose side is the Punisher on?
Frank Castle’s war on criminals becomes more difficult every day. The Marvel Universe “Civil War”—a result of the divisive Super Heroes Registration Act—has sent many heroes underground, giving the villains an advantage. Worse still, some former criminals have been given the authority to capture other criminals (and former heroes) themselves. Fortunately for the Punisher, while his job may be larger than ever, his perspective hasn’t changed. Criminals are criminals, even if they carry a badge. The world may have gone crazy, but the Punisher is the sanest guy in town. Just ask him. This title springs out of Civil War with dark humor and the suggestion that when heroes are fighting each other and villains are working for the government, the Punisher’s take-no-prisoners approach just might make the most sense. Matt Fraction’s sharp writing and Ariel Olivetti’s stylish art make for an entertaining ride.
Chapters/Spoilers:
Hey, there, Marvel Universe. He's back - with a vengeance. Taking no prisoners. Literally. With Civil War in full throttle mode, Frank Castle is feeling the heat. His safe houses have been raided and his munitions seized, and he's square in the crosshairs of a Marvel Universe big gun who always gets his man. Until now, this wasn't Frank's war. But when spandex-clad baddies start carrying badges - well, let's just say that's something the Punisher can't abide.
In, “How I Won the War Part 1: Bring on the Bad Guys”, The Punisher kills Stilt-Man and then starts searching for the bad guy who is supplying new tech to super villains. Bridge is tapped by Sitwell to bring in the Punisher and ends up resigning his position in SHIELD so he can do things outside of the law. Punisher rescues Spidey from Jester and Jack O'Lantern which brings him into contact with Cap and the hero resistance in the Civil War.
Also includes Punisher War Journal #1 - Black & White Variant -- The entire first issue / chapter in Glorious Black & White!
Next in, “How I Won the War Part 2: Dead Soldiers”, As the Civil War rages on, Captain America desparately tries to recruit The Punisher on his side, but can Steve Rogers contain the rabid Frank Castle from killing everyone they tried to question?
Next in, “How I Won the War Part 3: Mutually Assured Destruction”, While Captain America tries to goad Frank into a fist fight, the Punisher reflects on an encounter he had with Cap in Viet Nam and why he refuses to battle the heroic icon. Bridge tracks down Clarke, little knowing that the mad inventor is actually protecting the Punisher and arming him for upcoming battles.
Finally in, “Small Wake for a Tall Man”, A large gathering of villains retire to a local bar to hold a wake for the fallen Stilt-Man and after laughter, tears and a few drunken slugfests (as well as a visit by Spidey), somebody notices that the bartender looks an awful lot like the Punisher.
