This box dates back to late 1800s-early 1900s. During the height of Eau Claire's second phase of development. It was located on the corner of Farwell and Eau Claire Streets where today there is a bank parking lot. This was the "IT" place to go for the people who found wealth immigrating to this West Central Wisconsin town. During the prohibition period it was rumored (and later confirmed) that there was a basement door that opened into a tunnel to a speak-easy in the middle of Barstow and Eau Claire Streets. Rumors about a huge crystal chandelier located in the center of the room would shake when the streetcar went by. Very cool and EXTREMELY HARD-TO-FIND. Below is an image of a postcard that was mailed in 1909. Condition is fair - there are quite a few mars, but it EXISTS! Please look carefully at images, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Measurements are 8-1/4" x 2-1/2" x 5". Thanks for your interest!
