According to Dr. Bodo Hofstetter (Switzerland) (his email from April 29 2010), the author of this miniature is Zender, well-listed French artist from the turn of 19th century.

According to Schidlof, Zender was a French miniaturist, who was mentioned in reference sources as an artist working between 1797 and 1821 (sic!). Schidlof says also that "although one rather frequently meets works by him, so far we have no information about this artist. He was a good artist of average talent, who worked rather freely and whose works are reminiscent of those of E.Lami".
Mme Nathalie Lemoine-Bouchard through in-depth research came to the artist's real identity:
Jean Victor Zender was born on 8th April 1767 in St. Nizier de Lyon (suburb of Lyon, France) as son of Pierre Zendre (sic!) "maître eberiste" (cabinet maker) and his wife Marie, née Thomas.
In 1810 he lived in Place du Conceil, n° 48-49, Lyon; in 1827 his address is rue Claudia, n° 4 and in 1835 - rue de la Grenette, n°28. He died in Lyon on June 25th 1842.

We are very grateful to Dr. Bodo Hofstetter for his generous help.
