The Schneider 4x5.65" Graduated Coral 2 Glass Filter is
considered to be both a color-correction and color-effects
filter. Schneider Coral filters are used to warm cool lighting
situations such as overcast days and scenes in open shade.
Different
strengths of Schneider Coral filters can be used during filming to
achieve the same degree of apparent warmth under different light
conditions. This makes them particularly useful for maintaining a
consistent color balance throughout an entire day of shooting, or to
create a sunset or dawn effect during the day.
Schneider Coral
filters can be used to under-correct a scene in order to create an
excessively blue look for added drama, and can also be used as warming
filters to create other dramatic effects. Cinematographers who own a
complete set of Schneider Coral filters have the ability to control just
about any outdoor lighting situation.
With graduated filters,
often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one
part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations
where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty
landscapes. Schneider Graduated Color filters are part clear and part
color. They are designed to be used in professional matte boxes, so that
they are readily positioned at the exact angle required to create
desired effects.
Used primarily to add color to part of a scene
where color may be weak or absent, Schneider Graduated Color filters can
also be used for color effects which contribute to the cinematic drama
of a scene. They are available in an array of colors. The Soft or Hard
label indicates the degree of color graduation.
Note! Graduated Coral filters are available in grades 1/2, 1, 2 and 3 with 3 having the greatest effect
- Schneider Graduated Color filters, designed to provide a wide range of photographic effects, work well with sky, foliage and skin tones; They can be combined with each other, or with other filters, to provide a virtually limitless range of breathtaking effects
- There are two versions of Schneider Graduated Color filters
- Soft-edge and hard-edge: Typically soft edge filters are used with wide to medium angle lenses because these lenses have a greater depth of field; Hard edge filters are preferred for use with telephoto lenses or when a bold transition is preferred
- High-Quality Construction
- Schneider Graduated Color filters feature crystal clear, water-white optical glass, protected against edge-chipping and delamination by Schneider's unique Edge Seal, which also significantly reduces edge reflections and flare
- Schneider Quality Control
- Schneider filters are ground and polished to a precise flatness and plane parallelism
- Because all Schneider filters are designed and manufactured with the highest possible degree of consistency, you can swap like filters mid-shoot with no discernible variation in color or effect
Coral Filters
As the sun moves through the sky, the color
temperature of its light changes. It is
often necessary to compensate for this in a variety of small steps as the day
progresses, to match the appearance of different adjacent sequences to look as
if they all took place at the same time.
Coral filters are a range
of graded filters of a color similar to an 85 conversion filter. From light to heavy, any effect from basic
correction to warmer or cooler than "normal" is possible. Corals can also compensate for the overly
cool blue effect of outdoor shade.
All Schneider Graduated Color Filter perform beautifully,
providing exactly the desired degree of color effect without calling undue
attention to the transition of the filter itself. In fact, soft-edge Schneider
Graduated filters have such a smooth transition from color to clear, that the
point of transition is not readily visible even when using short focal-length
lenses. It's also the filter of choice when shooting irregular horizons or city
skylines.
Graduated Color filters feature crystal clear, water-white optical glass, and
are protected aganist edge-chipping and delamination by Schneider's unique Edge
Seal, which also significantly reduces edge reflections and flare.
