CLAUDIO PARRINI

Born in Vinci (province of Florence, Italy) in 1963, lives and works in Milan.Studies at the Porta Romana State Art Institute and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. Claudio Parrini began his art career as a painter in the mid 1980s, when painting was celebrating its own mourning process with Transavanguardia rites (some solo exibitions to remember: 1985, Studio Giambo, Florence; 1989, Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Empoli, Florence; 1990, Olympia Centre, Florence; 1991, Palazzo Pretorio, Certaldo, Siena). He then encountered the "subversive" problems of the cyberpunk movement, dealing with issues of communication and social norms, which triggered his current thinking on deconstructing the conventions of the artist’s role and the "places" where art is able to demonstrate its function (and its defining characteristics). In his work, he therefore began to reflect on the internal laws of the art system (and of its methods of legitimization), operating on the "outer edges" of its institutions with collective actions, hypertexts, working with social action groupings such as StranoNetwork, Quinta Parete, XS2WEB (the main shows are: 1995, "Convegno sul diritto alla comunicazione", Centro per l'arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci, Prato; 1996, "Virtual Light", Palazzo Fizzarotti, Bari; 1996, "Laboratorio politico di fine secolo", Galleria Pio Monti, Macerata; 1999, "II Biennal Mercosur" CYBERART: Interaction Zones, Porto Alegre, Brasil; 2002, "AHA, Activism Hacking Artivism", Museo Laboratorio di Arte Contemporanea, Università la Sapienza, Rome). At the same time, however, he remained involved with painting, attempting to deal with the issues using the same technical approach developed in his computer-based and collective work with the UnDoNet network (that together has been part of numerous exhibitions between the that: 2001, "Grand Tour", Biennale di Venezia; "Le Tribù dell'arte", GCAMC Galleria Comunale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea ex Fabbrica Peroni, Rome; 2002, "European Transimage", Paris, Stockholm, Vienna, Biella -in this period its work is based a lot on seminars, lectures, workoshop, texts, publishing productions). This led him to focus on all of the various "minor" forms of painting ("tavern art", ex-voto, bric-a-brac pictures). These are viewed as legitimate and although this ignores issues of aesthetic quality (individual style), it allows them to perform a public function in society. His work developed through experimentation with the possibility of contact and contamination between the two systems: the "private" system of his painting and the collective system of the electronic projects, developing a new language to communicate this complexity. From 2001 he has concentrated only on painting - portraits, landscapes and still lifes - saying "finish" to net-art, (2002, the solo show from the title "Quadri", Comune di Panicale, Perugia, marks a fundamental stage in its painter career); 2003, "No parachute", artandgallery, Milan; 2004, "_CON CORAGGIO E DEDUZIONE’…", Museo Laboratorio, Città Sant'Angelo, Pesaro; 2006, "I cantieri del silenzio", Villa di Poggio Reale, Rufina, Florence, NCTU Gallery, Hsingchu National Chiao Tung University, Taipei, Taiwan; 2008, "In principio era la bestia", Laboratorio delle arti, Piacenza; 2009, Comune di Paciano, Perugia; 2011, Comune di San Casciano V. P.; 2012, Galleria Bazzani, Castel Goffredo MN; Teatrino dei Fondi a Corrazzano di Pisa; 2013, Osteria, La Barrocciaia, Livorno; 2014 Ditutto Dipiù (FI) from 2009 he propose mostly its works in internet or through dealers.
