The base fabric of the pillow cover is unbleached thick cotton. The embroidery is so intricate that not even an inch of base fabric is visible though out the stitches.

*CHAIN STITCH or ARI Work:
Chain stitch is done with a hook for long flowing designs, that hook is referred as “Ari” and the work is called “Ari” work. The embroidery is done on thick cotton cloth in a way that the base fabric is not visible at all through the stitches. Silk or Wool thread is used for the embroidery. The thread is passed through the ari, hooked needle, and is always held under the fabric to be embroidered and the hook is used to pull surface of the fabric. Small stitches are used to cover the entire area; the background is done in a single color, made up of a series of concentric circles which provide sense of flow to the design. The patterns are usually linear abstractions of the local flora, with the outlines worked first and the forms filled in later.
