NEW CYCLOPAEDIA OF BOTANY AND COMPLETE BOOK OF HERBS

An excellent opportunity to acquire Volume II (only) of Richard Brook’s charming and highly regarded 19th-century botanical study. Originally conceived around 1825, this mid-century printing represents a comprehensive family herbal and systematic guide to plants both native to Britain and exotic locales. Brook, a dedicated Huddersfield bookseller and botanist, specifically focused this cyclopaedia on the practical, everyday medicinal and domestic utility of plants. The work is widely celebrated by collectors for its beautiful hand-coloured botanical plates and detailed text layout following the classic Linnaean classification system. A wonderful addition to any collection of natural history, historical medicine, or Victorian-era printing.

With 54 hand coloured plates present most illustrating approx 6 individual plant. These plates were produced by first printing a black-and-white base image, typically via wood engraving, steel engraving, or copper aquatint, and then employing teams of colourists ( often children) to manually apply watercolours or washes directly onto the page.

It is half bound in leather over black linen boards. Loss to the spine please see photos. Board edges are rubbed. Nice hand marbled endpapers. Scattered foxing throughout the book. This book is in good condition, it remains tightly bound with no loose pages. 349-733pp.  21cm x 15cm.

Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped.

To keep the cost of the postage down to the most economical level per book, you may consider buying more than 1 item from my eBay account. You can then request a combined postage cost and I will combine the items into the fewest parcels as possible - saving you money :)
