Warm greetings from Japan. Thank you very much for visiting our listing.

This listing is for a MUSIC MAN AXIS EX electric guitar in the highly sought-after Translucent Gold finish. The year of manufacture is unknown but believed to be very early production. It features a rare, dazzling quilted maple top crafted from a one-piece maple body with no center seam, a feature only present in very early models. A striking quilted figure adorns the top, creating a dramatic visual impact.

This is a Japanese-made Music Man AXIS EX, assembled to high domestic standards using the same hardware and pickups as the USA models, including Dimarzio pickups (Front: Dimarzio N2, Rear: Dimarzio B1). The original Floyd Rose licensed tremolo has been professionally modified to a more conventional tremolo system by a renowned workshop at a cost of 100,000 JPY, providing easier string changes and adjustment, ideal for those who dislike Floyd Rose tremolos.

The body is basswood with the signature maple top, and the maple neck features an asymmetric profile with a maple fingerboard. Key specifications include a 25.5" (648 mm) scale length, 22 high-profile medium width frets, a 10" (254 mm) neck radius, 41.9 mm nut width, and Schaller tuning machines with pearl buttons. The controls include a 3-way toggle switch and one volume knob engraved with "TONE" as on the Van Halen signature model. The weight is 3.52 kg. Additional notable points: The headstock carries the Ernie Ball Music Man logo without any Axis or signature logos, often called "Unnamed" by enthusiasts. The body back is opaque black with a high gloss polyester finish. The neck is attached with five bolts. Cosmetically, it shows some minor scratches and signs of use consistent with its age but is overall in good condition compared to other guitars from the same era. There is slight inward warping of the body due to age, but it does not affect playability. The frets retain over 80% of their life, and the neck remains straight with ample truss rod adjustment on both sides. Amplified performance is clear with no static or signal issues. Please note: The pack panel and arm bar are not included, and a new soft case by Japan is included for transportation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOUND ON THE WEB USING AI: The Music Man AXIS EX is a popular Japanese-manufactured guitar known for its smaller body size suited for Japanese players and distinctive sound from direct-mount Dimarzio pickups. Early models with one-piece maple tops are particularly rare and prized. Modifications to remove the Floyd Rose tremolo make this guitar especially attractive to players who prefer easier maintenance and adjustability without sacrificing original tonal qualities.
