Offered here is a vintage Chinese silk jacquard-woven picture ("silk tapestry") titled "山君圖" (Shan Jun Tu, "Tiger of the Mountain"), a woven reproduction of a painting by noted tiger-painter Zhang Shanzi (1882-1940), elder brother of the celebrated artist Zhang Daqian. The woven inscription includes the date "乙亥秋" (autumn, Yiwen year - corresponding to 1935) and the signature line attributing the original composition to Zhang Shanzi of Sichuan.

This is a machine-loomed jacquard silk picture, a decorative textile art form pioneered by Hangzhou silk mills such as Du Jinsheng Silk Weaving Company in the 1920s-30s, which reproduced famous paintings in woven silk thread. It is NOT hand embroidery - the fine woven ridges are characteristic of jacquard weaving.

Condition: Very good. Both the silk weaving and the frame are in very good condition for their age, with no notable fading, tears, or fabric issues, and a solid, presentable frame. Please review photos closely, as minor age-related characteristics consistent with a piece from the 1930s may still be present.

Measures approximately 38 x 18 inches (framed).

A wonderful piece for collectors of Chinese textile art, Republic-era decorative arts, or tiger-themed art and antiques.
