A Disney Cheshire Cat enamel trading pin from the Hidden Mickey cast lanyard series, shaped as a red playing-card diamond and marked 2 of 5 on the reverse, measuring approximately 3.5 x 3.5 cm and supplied loose with a Mickey-head rubber pin back. The front shows the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland in full colour - pink and purple striped head, bright yellow eyes and his famous wide toothy grin - with one striped paw raised in a wave, set against a deep red diamond with a silver-rimmed border. A small black Mickey-head icon is picked out in the upper point of the diamond, which is the hidden Mickey the series is named after. The reverse is silver-toned with a repeating Mickey-head waffle pattern and carries three stamped panels reading Hidden Mickey Pin 2 of 5, DISNEY MADE IN CHINA and the circular Official Disney Pin Trading logo.

Condition & size

Pre-owned in Very Good condition. The enamel work is clean and bright with strong colour across the red diamond, the striped body and the cat's face, and the silver-tone rim is unbroken. Under close light there are faint handling marks and light micro-scratches to the metal border and the flat red areas, as expected of a pin that has been handled and traded. The reverse shows minor plating haze and small handling marks around the post, and the stamped panels remain fully legible. No chips, cracks, bends or losses to the enamel are visible. Supplied loose, with a standard Mickey-head rubber pin back fitted. Please review all of the photographs closely, as they show the actual item you will receive and form part of this description.

Approx. 3.5 x 3.5 cm across the diamond, approx. 2 mm thick excluding the pin back; approx. 10 g.

Background

Hidden Mickey pins are the cast lanyard mystery pins given out across the Disney parks for trading, each one carrying a small concealed Mickey-head icon somewhere in the artwork and a numbered "x of y" stamp on the reverse so collectors can track a set. This diamond belongs to the Alice in Wonderland Playing Card Suits set issued at Disneyland Resort, in which the main characters - Alice, the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts and the Cheshire Cat - each appear on a playing-card suit shape, with a harder-to-find chaser variant completing the run. Alice in Wonderland subjects, and the Cheshire Cat in particular, remain among the most consistently traded characters in the hobby.

Who it's for

One for Disney pin traders building a Hidden Mickey set, Alice in Wonderland and Cheshire Cat collectors, lanyard and pin board displayers, and anyone wanting a small, affordable piece of Disney parks memorabilia or a stocking-filler gift.

Estimated Date

Research points to the Alice in Wonderland Playing Card Suits Hidden Mickey set issued at Disneyland Resort in the mid-2010s, with pin databases listing the card-suit Cheshire Cat under a 2013 Wave A release; the pin itself carries no date stamp, only the "Hidden Mickey Pin 2 of 5" and "DISNEY MADE IN CHINA" markings, so the exact release year cannot be confirmed from the item.
