This is the 400 MHz Lombard version originally released by Apple in 1999.The computer is in used vintage condition with visible scratches, marks, dust and general wear to the casing, keyboard and palm rest. The lid that covers expansion ports in the back won't stay shut and keeps opening. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
The computer powers on and boots successfully into the existing Mac OS X installation, as shown in the photographs. I have not extensively tested every function, port or drive. The operating system was already installed when I acquired the laptop and may contain unknown passwords or settings, so the buyer should be prepared to reinstall the operating system.
Operating system
The PowerBook currently boots into Mac OS X 10.3.2, as shown in the photos.
I did not install or configure the operating system. The laptop came to me with this installation already present, together with any existing user accounts, settings and passwords.
I do not know whether any passwords or account restrictions are currently in place, and I cannot guarantee access to all functions of the installed system.
For this reason, the buyer should assume that a clean installation/reinstallation of Mac OS may be required before normal use.
The existing installation is included only to demonstrate that the computer boots successfully.
Power adapter
The laptop is supplied with the Apple G4 power adapter shown in the photos.
Please note that this is not the original PowerBook G3 Lombard adapter. The G4 adapter uses the same required voltage but has a different-sized connector. I adapted the connector using a method similar to the modification described in the MacRumors guide for using later G3/G4 adapters with older PowerBooks.
Instead of the plastic spacing ring described in that guide, I used insulating tape around the plug to, as shown in the close-up photograph. The adapter has been used successfully to power this PowerBook.
The modification is clearly shown in the photos and the buyer should be aware of it before purchasing. The MacRumors discussion describes the same general principle of adapting the later connector for these older PowerBook G3 models.
Included
PowerBook G3 laptop + modified Apple G4 power adapter, exactly as pictured.
Due to the age of the computer, it is sold as a vintage/collector's item with no guarantee regarding battery life or long-term reliability.
