Description
Original vintage 1991 Mattel Rollerblade Barbie Doll #2214, featuring the famous:
“Skates flicker ’n flash!”
This is the original early-1990s Rollerblade Barbie release featuring Barbie in her white and pink skating outfit with floral accents, extremely long blonde hair and her distinctive bright pink Rollerblade-brand inline skates.
The doll remains Never Removed From Box (NRFB) with her original accessories.
Original Flicker ’n Flash Rollerblades
What makes this Barbie particularly memorable is her unusual Rollerblade skating feature.
The pink inline skates were designed with a flint-based mechanism that creates visible sparks when the wheels are rolled firmly across an appropriate hard surface. The front packaging prominently advertises the feature as:
“Rollerblade – Skates flicker ’n flash!”
The back of the box instructs:
“Make skates flicker ’n flash! Just hold doll’s skates and roll!”
Because of this unusual sparking mechanism, Rollerblade Barbie has become one of the more recognizable novelty Barbie releases of the early 1990s.
IMPORTANT: Due to the age of this vintage collectible, the skating/sparking feature has not been tested. This item is being sold as a collectible and the functionality of the vintage mechanism is not guaranteed.
