A vintage audio cassette presented in a clear plastic case with its printed paper inlay card, shown alongside the tape itself so both sides can be seen.

The front of the inlay is printed in black, white and red. Across the top it reads From Original Recordings, below which GERMAN ARMY MARCHES appears in bold red capitals with Vol. I set to the right in black. Beneath that, in a flowing black script, is the German sub-title So wie wir kämpfen. The lower two thirds of the card carry a black and white illustration of a German soldier in a steel helmet and tunic, standing in the foreground with further figures and a battlefield scene rendered behind him.

The cassette shell is black with a plain white label on both sides. Side 1 reads "German Army Marches. Vol. I", with "SIDE" to the left and "1" to the right, a printed track listing across the top and the credit line " 1985 Hammer. Made in U.S.A." beneath the spindle holes. Side 2 is laid out identically and marked "2".

The reverse of the inlay carries the full bilingual track listing. Side One: Mein Schlesier-Land (My Silesia), Das Lied der Maenner vom Westwallbau (The Song Of The West Wall Workers), Schoen ist es, Soldat zu sein (It's Great To Be A Soldier), Lippe Detmold, eine wunderschoene Stadt (Lippe Detmold, A Beautiful Town), Alte Kameraden (Old Comrades). Side Two: Deutschlandlied (German National Anthem), Niedersachsenmarsch (March of Lower Saxony), Von der Tann, Gruss an Kiel (Greetings to Kiel). The same "HAMMER. Made in U.S.A." credit appears at the foot of the card.

Both the tape spools and the pressure pad are visible through the shell window, and the tape sits wound towards one side.

Background
This is Volume I of the German Army Marches cassette series issued by the American label Hammer, with a phonographic copyright date of 1985 and "Made in U.S.A." printed on both the shell label and the inlay card. The series was sold as a documentary reissue of period German military band and soldiers' song recordings, and the "From Original Recordings" strapline on the front of the card reflects that the material was drawn from earlier source recordings rather than newly performed for the release.

The programme is a mix of well known German marches and soldiers' songs. Alte Kameraden (Old Comrades), composed by Carl Teike in 1889, is one of the most widely played military marches in the world and remains a staple of German band repertoire. The Deutschlandlied is the German national anthem, and Niedersachsenmarsch and Gruss an Kiel are regional and naval-town marches. Other titles on the tape, such as Das Lied der Maenner vom Westwallbau, are wartime-period pieces and are of interest chiefly as historical documents of the era.

The Hammer series ran to several volumes and single tapes from it now turn up only occasionally; most surviving examples come to market as multi-volume lots rather than as individual tapes. It is offered here purely as a historical music and militaria-adjacent collectable.

Condition
Pre-owned in Good condition. Pre-owned and showing modest wear consistent with age and storage since the mid 1980s. The clear plastic case has light surface scuffing and faint scratching, most noticeable across the front face where it catches the light, and there is some very light shelf marking to the edges. The case is intact with no cracks, splits or broken hinges visible in the photographs.

The printed paper inlay card is present, complete and still folded correctly in the case, with both the front artwork and the full reverse track listing legible throughout. It shows light handling wear and gentle age toning to the paper, with no tears, no water damage and no writing.

The cassette shell itself is clean and undamaged, with both white labels present, fully attached and clearly readable on Side 1 and Side 2. Both spools and the pressure pad are in place and the tape is intact and wound normally. There are no cracks to the shell and no visible mould, warping or tape spillage.

Please note the tape has not been play-tested, so playback quality cannot be guaranteed and it is sold as seen on that basis. As with any cassette of this age, some drop-out or reduced fidelity should be anticipated.

Supplied loose as pictured: the cassette in its clear plastic case with the original printed paper inlay card. No outer packaging, sleeve or additional volumes are included. Please review all of the photographs closely, as they show the actual item you will receive and form part of this description.

Who it's for
This will appeal to military music and brass band collectors, cassette and physical-media enthusiasts building a vintage tape collection, and militaria and twentieth-century history collectors interested in period recordings as documentary artefacts. It also suits anyone tracking down individual volumes to complete the Hammer German Army Marches series, and retro audio users who still run a working tape deck. Offered strictly as a historical collectable and music item.

Estimated Date
1985. The date is taken directly from the item itself: the phonographic copyright line " 1985 Hammer. Made in U.S.A." is printed on the labels of both Side 1 and Side 2 of the cassette shell, and the Hammer, Made in U.S.A. credit is repeated at the foot of the inlay card. The standard clear Norelco-style case and the printing style of the inlay are both consistent with a mid-1980s American cassette issue.
