A single softcover Garfield comic magazine, issue 10, with a purple graduated cover showing Garfield dressed as a detective in a black-and-white deerstalker hat, holding a magnifying glass beside a green Victorian street lamp. The masthead reads GARFIELD in yellow, with "10" and "UK £1.25" at the top right, a green starburst flash reading "ALSO FEATURING ORSON'S FARM", and a thought bubble reading "ELEMENTARY, MY DEAR ODIE - THE FUNNY STUFF'S INSIDE".

Inside are full-colour Garfield and Orson's Farm comic strips, black-and-white activity and puzzle pages, a blue "Garfield Maze Double Puzzle" spread, a letters page and a contents page. The indicia page reads "Copyright 1989 United Feature Syndicate, Inc." and gives the publisher as Ravette Books Limited, 3 Glenside Estate, Star Road, Partridge Green, Nr Horsham, West Sussex RH13 8RA, with Editor: Gordon Volke. The contents list confirms a Garfield poster on pages 20-21, and that centre poster is present and intact - a green and purple double-page spread reading "Let me give you a tip. And here it is . . ." with Garfield beside a bedroom scene, carrying the Garfield and Ravette Books logos. The back cover advertises "Garfield - The Computer Games!" from The Edge, showing "Big, Fat, Hairy Deal" and "Winter's Tail", with a barcode and ISBN 9781853042072.

Background
Garfield was created by Jim Davis and first syndicated by United Feature Syndicate in 1978, going on to become one of the most widely read newspaper strips in the world. In the UK, Ravette Books Limited of Partridge Green, West Sussex held the licence through the 1980s and 1990s and published a long run of Garfield paperbacks, annuals and this monthly comic magazine, edited by Gordon Volke and printed by Arnoldo Mondadori in Verona, Italy.

Each issue mixed reprinted Davis newspaper strips in full colour with puzzles, jokes, readers' letters and a pull-out centre poster. The companion feature Orson's Farm is the UK name for Davis's second strip, known in the United States as U.S. Acres, which ran from 1986 and later formed half of the Garfield and Friends television series - it never achieved the same profile in Britain, which makes these Ravette issues one of the few places UK readers encountered it. Because the centre posters were designed to be removed and pinned up, and because children's comics were rarely kept, complete 1989 issues with the poster still bound in are noticeably harder to find than the magazines themselves.

Condition
Pre-owned in Good condition for its age. The magazine is complete with all pages and the staples are firm. The cover shows handling wear consistent with age: light rubbing and small surface marks across the purple background, softening and slight bumping to the corners, and a shallow crease running in from the lower edge. The spine has light creasing and the outer page edges have mild tanning and a few small nicks. Inside, page 3 carries some yellowed adhesive residue and light staining across the middle of the comic strip, visible in the photographs, though the artwork underneath remains readable. The remaining interior pages are clean and bright with no tears, no writing and no puzzles completed. The centre poster on pages 20-21 is present, still attached and undamaged. Supplied loose as a single magazine, with no additional inserts or free gifts. Please review all of the photographs closely, as they show the actual item you will receive and form part of this description.

Who it's for
This will appeal to Garfield and Jim Davis collectors, fans of Orson's Farm and U.S. Acres, and anyone assembling a run of the Ravette UK Garfield monthly. It also makes a nostalgic gift for someone born in or around 1989, a birthday-year present, or an affordable piece of late-1980s British comic history for collectors of vintage children's magazines.

Estimated Date
1989. The indicia states "Copyright 1989 United Feature Syndicate, Inc." with Ravette Books Limited as publisher, and the cover carries the UK cover price of £1.25 and issue number 10. The back cover advertises The Edge's Garfield computer games "Big, Fat, Hairy Deal" and "Winter's Tail", both of which date to the 1987-1990 period, which is consistent.
