2007 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI – 171,795 Miles – SPARES / REPAIRS
I’m selling my 2007 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI as a spares/repairs project or donor vehicle.
This is a complete, running and driving car with 171,795 miles. Despite its faults, it still drives well and has been a dependable car. The well-known 1.9 TDI engine starts and runs well, and there is plenty of useful life and value left in the car for someone who is able to carry out the required work.
I’m selling it because it now needs more work than I want to put into this car.
The good bits
The 1.9 TDI has a well-established reputation for being a durable and long-lived engine, and this one is still running and driving at 172k miles. For somebody with the ability to repair it, it could make a worthwhile project, or alternatively there is considerable value in the complete engine, drivetrain and other components.
Known faults / work required
MOT
The car requires work to address the items identified during its most recent MOT.
MOT failures/advisories:
Major defects
Advisories
I took the car to a garage for an assessment of the work required, and they estimated that addressing the MOT items would cost approximately £500. This was a garage estimate rather than a fixed quotation, so the actual cost could be higher or lower depending on the work required and how it is carried out.
Clutch & dual-mass flywheel
The clutch and dual-mass flywheel require attention. This is noticeable when driving, but the car currently remains driveable.
Air conditioning
The air conditioning currently does not blow cold.
I’ve already spent money trying to resolve this, including having the system regassed, the compressor replaced and a sensor replaced, but unfortunately it is still not producing cold air. It therefore requires further investigation/repair.
Tyres / wheels
Most of the tyres themselves are not old and have plenty of tread remaining. However, the tyres do gradually lose pressure over a period of several weeks.
I believe this is related to the alloy wheels rather than the tyres themselves, but I am not a specialist and cannot guarantee the cause. The pressures therefore need to be checked and topped up periodically.
Bodywork / rust
There is some significant rust to the bodywork.
The rust is visually obvious and should be considered when viewing the car. As far as I am aware, the affected areas remain structurally solid and the rust is currently a bodywork/cosmetic issue rather than something I am aware of affecting the structural integrity of the vehicle.
That said, I am not a bodywork or structural specialist, so this is my observation rather than a professional assessment. Please study the photographs carefully and inspect the vehicle yourself if you are considering repairing it.
General condition
This is an older car with 171,000 miles and it shows its age. There is significant cosmetic rust, along with the mechanical and other issues listed above.
However, this is not a non-runner. It currently starts, runs and drives, and I have continued to use it while it has remained legal to keep it on the road. Aside from the clutch/flywheel issue, I have found it to drive well.
I am not a mechanic, so I don’t want to make claims about the vehicle that I cannot substantiate. I can only describe its condition based on my own experience of owning and driving it.
I have no reason to believe that the car has a fundamental engine failure, but I cannot guarantee its mechanical condition, reliability or suitability to drive home. Anyone purchasing it should make their own assessment and arrange recovery if they are not comfortable driving it.
Why I’m selling it as spares/repairs
I have decided that the combination of the MOT work, clutch/flywheel repair, bodywork and other outstanding issues makes it uneconomic for me to continue with the car.
For somebody who can do their own mechanical work, however, I think there is still plenty of value here.
It would suit someone looking for:
