It opens the window to life in South Africa, both pre-apartheid and during, as seen through the eyes of a privileged white person with a British background. To add to the mix, Dr. Koz’s family was Jewish, originally from Russia, immigrating first to England and finally settling in South Africa.Although the degrees that Dr. Koz obtained at Oxford University and Harvard opened the doors for him to become the medical director of the 1,500-bed psychiatric hospital on Ward’sIsland in New York City, and subsequently the medical director of Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, the country’s first psychiatric hospital founded in 1773. It was his medical education in South Africa that laid the foundation for his considerable professional reputation.Dr. Koz dedicated several chapters of his book describing the educational system in South Africa. That also included his clear-eyed view of the country’s obsession with sports, especially at the high school and college level.Although good at sports, Koz had to downplay his academic capabilities to avoid being snubbed by fellow students. Our company is dedicated to providing you with the best quality, lowest cost products on eBay.
