Tokai TSG-60 Olympic White, manufactured in 1982.
Description
This is a 1982 Japan vintage Tokai Gakki SG-type guitar, model TSG-60.
Tokai is particularly highly regarded among Japan vintage guitars for its Les Paul-style guitars, and its "LS" models from the same period often fetch prices on the used market comparable to Gibson Custom Shop or Historic Collection guitars.
The TSG-60 is a 1963 copy of the SG model, faithfully reproducing features such as the small pickguard and 22-fret joint, giving it the look and feel of an early SG.
The fret edge binding on the fingerboard is also reproduced, making it a recommended choice for serious players who appreciate attention to detail.
The tulip-like inlay on the headstock, modeled after the crown inlay, and the unique truss rod cover from this period are charming visual features.
It is equipped with two Tokai '57 PAF Vintage pickups with Alnico magnets, resulting in a vintage-like sound perfect for rock and roll. Aside from the pickup covers being removed and some knobs being replaced, it remains in original condition.
Weighting only 2.93kg, it's incredibly lightweight and easy to handle, yet it possesses the dynamic resonance inherited from the company's highly-regarded LS series. Combined with the vintage-style pickups, it produces a dry and pleasing sound.
The color is a yellowish Olympic White, and combined with the zebra-colored pickups, it has a sophisticated look.
The exterior shows signs of age-appropriate use, including dents and minor scratches.
The frets have about 70% remaining, but the neck is significantly twisted, and the bridge is warped due to age. Therefore, the nut grooves and bridge saddle grooves have been cut and adjusted to achieve the correct setting.
The current string height at the 12th fret is approximately 1.8mm on the 6th string side and 1.5mm on the 1st string side. While playable without issues, the neck twist and bridge warp make it prone to buzzing. Therefore, if you wish to lower the string height, fret leveling or bridge replacement is recommended.
A third-party soft case is included.
