DESCRIPTION

 Personalized and dated examples like this are highly sought after by collectors of American folk art. Chip carved casket-form tramp art dresser box.  Carved on four sides and the lid, with hex signs, foliate images and zigzag carvings.  Three-quarter column corners on extended carved feet.  Lift top on brass butt hinges opens to reveal the name and date, clearly carved "PAUL VENUTO / 1934," above a green fabric lined compartment, with two inset photographs, presumably of the maker's family around the date of creation. 

CONDITION

Overall excellent.  Structurally sound and sturdy.  Minor surface wear well consistent with age.  No parts missing, except for an incomplete lock mechanism.  No age checks. Rich, dark surface patina (all visible in the images).  A FINE EARLY 20TH CENTURY FOLK TRAMP ART KEEPSAKE BOX.
