This is a Czechoslovak vintage Egermann Bohemian glass ewer vase, from a country famous for its glass artisans.

It features a dark ruby red "flashed" or stained outer layer over clear crystal. The artist skillfully cut and engraves through the red layer to reveal the design underneath. The forest is a common thene and this typically depicts a stag, a castle and a rabbit amid trees for a peaceful image.

Made of Thick heavy glass— the rim is ~ 3/8” thick. My experience with a lot of old artisan glass is that it feels a little bit rough to the touch even though it doesn’t have any cracks or chips it seems to be the nature of this thicker type of glass.

The vase measures about 8” tall and 7” from ear to ear with 3.5” wide mouth, it weighs about 1 pound .

The item I’m selling is one of a pair that have been sitting on top of my grandparents China cabinet for probably 50 years. When I finally took them down off the shelf, i found one was excellent— except for the normal wear of being almost 90 years young and that’s what I’m selling here and the other one was severely damaged on the base and is badly repaired with big cracks glued and a missing bit.

THAT SECOND ONE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS OFFER, BUT IT CAN BE SEEN IN THE LAST 3 PICTURES WITH CRACKS. THE LAST PHOTOS ARE OF THE BROKEN ONE.

I’m happy to sell the second one with the understanding that it is SEVERLY damaged but not seen when displayed in a cabinet so if anyone is interested in buying it and restoring at themselves, please let me know and I’ll make you a great price for both —

.

This type of design of stag in winter is a timeless theme.
